Happy Pi Day

Yes, I'm totally nerding out, but I'm not afraid of my nerd side! When we were homeschooling in CA, one of the things we talked about is that mathematicians love short cuts. Pi (or π, if you want to be fancy) is the mathematical constant representing the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. It's a never ending number, and I won't bore you with a huge long string of digits. Since mathematicians don't want to write it out either, let's just stick with the first two decimal places, which make Pi equal to 3.14. Amazingly enough, 3.14 = March 14. Happy Pi Day! Yes, we will be having pie of some sort today. Maybe cranberry apple because that's what fruit I have in my freezer.

I like Pi and Pie. I like today.

Here's a link to Pi calculated out to 1,000,000 decimal places.

One of the unique things about Pi that I particularly find interesting is that it is a non-repeating, non-terminating decimal.

For example, 1/3 = .3333... It's non-terminating, but is repeating. The entire Pi numeric doesn't form a pattern at all.

Good times.
