My dirty little secret...

We have this room in the basement that has become the catch-all for miscellaneous junk. All the kids sleeping bags, dress-ups, wrapping paper, craft supplies, old home-school materials, sewing projects, portable TV, etc. We haven't really used the room for any designated purpose for about 15-18 months. And as you can imagine, it's a mess. Maybe you can't imagine that? Think of the junk drawer in the kitchen only a much larger space! So anytime anyone comes over, we just keep that door closed, and if for some reason the door is open and the little cat goes in to check things out, we just say a prayer that she will make her way out unscathed.

I can't really say that I'm a neatnik as a housekeeper, but I like to keep things to a dull roar, rather than full fledged chaos. Sadly, this room has reached chaotic porportions. As much as it pained me to say it, I have another project looming. No, not Thanksgiving travel plans or meal planning. Not those two big meetings in November and December. And girl's camp is still a long way out. The project that just jumped to the front of the line is cleaning the junk room.

The G-man very kindly volunteered to use his pocket knife and help me assemble shelves. Then the task was to sort through everything. I'm delighted to say that after several hours of work, you could see large portions of the floor again.

Whew! This is getting long and detailed. After much sorting and two full bins of trash, and a lot of give-aways, we've made it to a good place. Can I mimic Martha Stewart? Does the Domestic Doyenne even have a small junk drawer or does she just pay some flunky to clean it for her? Anyway, it's a good thing. The room is clean! I did the happy dance and called Marvin in Denmark to let him know that we don't have to keep that door closed any more.

Wow! It looks great in that room now! Are you not going to allow anyone to go in it anymore? (That's how I feel - after I clean the bathroom, no one is allowed to go. Just hold it.)

Awww man... does this mean that I have to finish unpacking so I can "keep up with the Smith's"? I should probably do that anyway... It looks fantabulous though! Here are some virtual Sparkles for your accomplishment! *~*
